Nigeria: Lagos airport set for emergency landing

NEW YORK (Reuters) - China said on Thursday that the disagreement over Iran's nuclear program had reached "a new, crucial stage," calling for Tehran to begin a new round of talks with world powers, something a U.S. official said could happen at some point. Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi made the comment after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made a speech drawing a "red line" for Iran's nuclear program on Thursday, despite a U.S. refusal to set an ultimatum, saying Tehran will be on the brink of a nuclear weapon in less than a year. ...

Ahead of their debate, Paul Ryan takes on Joe Biden

COLUMBUS, Ohio-Less than two weeks before Paul Ryan and Joe Biden face off on the debate stage, Paul Ryan took on his counterpart on the issues of Social Security and Medicare. The GOP vice presidential nominee almost always saves his rhetorical fire for the top of the Democratic ticket but Saturday he aimed to rebut a claim the vice president made on the campaign trail in Florida Friday.

"Just down in Florida yesterday Vice President Biden was making up all new falsehoods about Social Security and taxes," Ryan said at the U.S. Sportsmen's Alliance's annual banquet, an event for hunters and fishermen. "They're trying to scare people for political gain. That's unfortunately the kind of campaign that we're seeing, as I said with a president without a record to run on. Let me be very clear: There is only one person in this race threatening the health and retirement security programs of our seniors and that is President Obama. There is only one person in this race insisting on raising taxes and that is President Obama. In fact, Joe Biden himself voted to raise taxes on social security benefits and as a senator, President Obama voted to keep those tax increases in place three times."

Ryan continued saying his ticket "will never waiver in our commitment to our seniors."

"Our plans actually save these programs, they make no changes for people in or near retirement, they strengthen Medicare and Social Security for a generation," Ryan said. "And you know why we do this? Because it's a promise that was made. It's because people organized their retirements around these promises. They paid their taxes when they worked and now these benefits are due to them. And shame on the politician who wants to use this issue to try and scare seniors when those of us who are out there trying to fix this problem for my generation and my kids' generation and your kids."

Speaking at the Century Village retirement community in Boca Raton, Fla. Friday Joe Biden said the Romney-Ryan plan would raise taxes on Social Security and they would turn Medicare into "vouchercare."

"If Gov. Romney's plan goes into effect, it could mean that everyone, every one of you, would be paying more on taxes on your Social Security," Biden said. "The average senior would have to pay $460 a year more in taxes for their Social Security. Ladies and gentlemen, that's ? while these guys are ? hemorrhaging tax cuts for the super wealthy."

Biden's claim is based on a Tax Policy Center analysis that tried to explain some of Romney's economic goals - cutting taxes by 20 percent, closing undisclosed loopholes and balancing the budget. Romney's plan does not specify that he would achieve such goals by raising taxes on Social Security. When Romney unveiled his plan in 2011, he promised there would be no tax hikes on Social Security benefits.

Although the vice president accused the GOP ticket of raising taxes on Social Security, while serving in the senate he voted for President Bill Clinton's 1993 budget which raises taxes on Social Security benefits, something both the Romney and Ryan camps were eager to point out.

What Biden is referring to as "vouchercare" is Ryan's Medicare plan. Romney has said his plan for Medicare is nearly "identical" to his running mate's. Although Ryan rejects the term voucher it would replace the current Medicare system with a plan where beneficiaries would be paid an amount by the government that they would use toward private insurance premiums. Ryan's plan would not affect current seniors and although critics, including Biden, say seniors would end up paying more Ryan defends his plan saying it's the only way to save Medicare from going completely bankrupt.

Ryan and Biden's debate will take place on Oct. 11 in Danville, Ky. and it will be moderated by ABC News' Martha Raddatz. Ryan will take some time for debate prep this coming week heading to Virginia, after a bus tour through Iowa, to get ready for the face off. His debate sparring partner and Joe Biden stand-in is former Solicitor General Ted Olson.

Blessed union: Couple thankful to share wedding with mom battling terminal cancer

Jaqueline Diaz-Sua, left, embraces her new mother-in-law, Geri Kidawski, shortly after her wedding ceremony Sept. 23 at the assisted-living facility where Kidawski lives as she fights cancer. (Lenn Stout | The Coloradoan)

FORT COLLINS?? Most brides plan their wedding over a span of months, crafting every detail with precision and care ? down to the last flower petal.

But for Jaqueline Diaz-Sua, 23, of Florida, the perfect wedding required no pomp and circumstance ? only the people she loves and the blessing of her 63-year-old mother-in-law, Geri Kidawski.

Diaz-Sua and her fianc?, Chris Kidawski, 34, began planning the makeshift ceremony three days before saying "I do," flying to Colorado on Friday night to give the family one more memory together before the end of Geri's two-year battle with cancer. She's expected to die in the coming weeks.

"That's what weddings are all about ? to have the people around you who you love there to witness your love," Diaz-Sua said minutes before walking down a makeshift aisle in the garden of Turnberry Place Assisted Living, where Geri recently moved. "That's the most important thing in this world."

Change of plans

The couple, who got engaged July 22, originally had planned a larger February ceremony in Diaz-Sua's Florida home. When it became apparent that Geri likely wouldn't survive long enough to be there, the bride and her mother began drafting a plan to include her "second mom" in their special day ? a gift to her husband-to-be and the woman who raised him.

The February ceremony will feature a slide show from their fly-by wedding in Colorado, she said. Last Sunday's ceremony was as "perfect" as any wedding could be.

She donned "something new" ? a princesslike white dress purchased from David's Bridal the night before. Her hair was swept into a simple, romantic side ponytail by a local stylist at Arabella Salon.

She slipped "something blue" ? graceful royal- blue sandals ? onto her feet.

"Something borrowed" came in the multiple donations from the Fort Collins community ? a donated cake from Baby Cakes bakery, donated photography services from Natalie Beck Photography, donated decorations from Fort Collins Nursery and a donated arch and chairs from Front Range Event Rental ? that put the finishing touches on what started out as a small, private ceremony.

"We have everything," said Chris Kidawski, looking on as flower girl Hailey Meurer, 6, twirled around the property in her turquoise dress. "This is indescribable."

"The people of Fort Collins have been very good to us," Diaz-Sua said. "There are a lot of good, beautiful people in the world ? and I now know that there's a higher majority of those people here. ... They made miracles happen."

As the bride and her mother, Astrith Sua, shared precious moments together before the ceremony, Geri quietly prepared herself in another room, adjusting her wig and smoothing the green flowered dress that hung gracefully from her shoulders.

Linda Bennett, Geri's nurse from Pathways Hospice, grabbed a few tissues from the bedside table and tucked them into the side of Geri's wheelchair.

"You better just take the whole box," Geri said, laughing. "I'm going to be crying today."

The tears started early as she began talking about the young couple and the "love that surrounded" her on their wedding day.

"I called Jackie 'my daughter' from the very first time she called me," she said. "She is such a sweetheart, and I love her so dearly. ... My boys have also just been amazing through all of this. They love me so much. I know they'd do anything for me."

"Lover of life"

Chris said the wedding was a "bittersweet" gift to the ever-giving mother of three boys who always hoped for a daughter ? battling miscarriages, stillbirths and "so many bad things."

Geri's strength and inspiration through trials, culminating in her fight with cancer, is a "constant inspiration" to the three boys, he said.

"Describing my mom is like writing a book or trying to do a crib-notes version of the 'The Iliad,' " he said. "She's a lover of life ... even though she's been hurt her entire life ? she's been controlled, she's been manipulated, she's gone through indescribable things ? you'd never know it. Even in this situation, she's smiling and she's happy. There's never any animosity towards anything that's happened to her. She's very selfless."

She passed on those qualities to her son, said his mother-in-law, Astrith Sua.

"My daughter found someone who will love her and trust her and take care of her for all her life, thanks to Geri," Sua said. "She did an excellent job."

Senior ally of former Ivory Coast president re-arrested in Ghana

(Reuters) - Interpol agents in Ghana have rearrested a senior ally of former Ivory Coast President Laurent Gbagbo amid a deepening dispute that has led to the closure of the border between the two West African neighbors, his lawyer said late on Friday.

Ivorian authorities are seeking the extradition of Justin Kone Katinan, a former budget minister, who was first arrested in Ghana last month during a wave of deadly attacks in Ivory Coast that the government there blamed on pro-Gbagbo exiles.

A court in Ghana's capital Accra granted his release on bail on Tuesday, but Katinan's lawyer said he had been arrested again at his home on Friday afternoon.

"They picked him at about 5 pm (1.00 p.m. EDT) and sent him to the Interpol wing (of the police)," Patrick Sogbodjor, the lawyer, said, adding that he was worried his client could be summarily extradited to Ivory Coast.

"That should not happen without going to court. It is not the right way, however, it can happen," he told Reuters.

Ivory Coast shut its border with Ghana a week ago, saying that gunmen who attacked police and army installations in the Ivorian border town of Noe had crossed over from Ghanaian territory.

Katinan is being sought on one of around two dozen international arrest warrants issued by the government of President Alassane Ouattara last year following a brief war that killed more than 3,000 people.

The violence erupted after Gbagbo refused to accept Ouattara's internationally recognized victory in an election in late 2010.

While Gbagbo is currently awaiting trial before the International Criminal Court on charges of crimes against humanity, most of his senior political and military allies are either in jail in Ivory Coast or in exile, many in Ghana.

This is the carbon fiber core of Ferrari's first hybrid

Ferrari has already said that it will never make an electric car -- at least, not while Luca di Montezemolo is in charge -- but we already know that a hybrid Ferrari is in the cards. And, this is what will hold it all together. At this year's Paris Auto Show the company rolled out this carbon fiber cage that is the core chassis of the machine. Other than a pledge that the thing will use F1-inspired technology nobody would tell us what it would be called (possibly F70, at least internally) or just when the rest of its components will be bolted on. But, for now, enjoy this sneak peek under the skin of Ferrari's next hypercar.

Burnt money, campus ban: Tidbits on Colo. shooter

DENVER (AP) ? The suspect in the Aurora movie shooting case mailed "burnt currency," along with a notebook, to his psychiatrist before the attack. He threatened a professor and was banned from a university campus before withdrawing from its neuroscience graduate program. His defense team has added a psychiatrist.

Those were the few tidbits of information in hundreds of pages of heavily-redacted court documents released Friday, which serve as the best chance the public has to understand what happened before James Holmes allegedly opened fire at a midnight screening of the new Batman movie more than two months ago.

The documents shed little light on Holmes' possible motives or whether the university ignored warning signs about him. That's partly because Arapahoe County District Judge William B. Sylvester continued to keep under seal the key documents in the case ? the affidavit that lays out prosecutors' case against Holmes, and the search warrants that allowed them to gather evidence against him.

Holmes, 24, faces 152 charges in the July 20 shooting that killed 12 people and injured 58 others.

Some of the documents are entirely blacked out. In others, Sylvester's rulings on legal disputes, references to years-old case law and even copies of newspaper articles are redacted, along with information about the investigation.

The documents do shed a little more light on one of the main disputes in the case ? Holmes' threats against a professor, possibly the university psychiatrist, Dr. Lynne Fenton, who has testified that she contacted campus police after her last meeting with Holmes June 11. Fenton, who testified Aug. 30, said she went to police to gather more information and communicate her "concern."

She did not refer to her concern as a threat.

Prosecutors contended that Holmes was barred from campus after making the threats. The University of Colorado has said that Holmes was denied access to nonpublic buildings on its Anschutz medical campus because he withdrew as a neuroscience graduate student, not for safety reasons.

A university spokeswoman repeated that point Friday and said a gag order that Sylvester imposed kept her from commenting about whether Holmes had made any threats. The university has previously refused to comment on how it handled Holmes, citing the gag order. Before the order, university officials said their police force had no contact with Holmes and that the chief of the department knew nothing about him.

The defense team sought sanctions against prosecutors for contending Holmes had been barred from campus, arguing that the false statements could contaminate the jury pool. But Sylvester shot that down, ruling the statements were within legal bounds.

Defense attorneys issued a written statement Friday again saying the claim that Holmes was barred from campus was false and misleading.

The most legally significant disclosure Friday was the inclusion of the psychiatrist on Holmes' defense team. Holmes' attorneys have said he is mentally ill.

"This is unusual in a normal case, but not surprising in this case," said criminal trial lawyer Dan Recht, former president of the Colorado Criminal Defense Bar. "Presumably he's (the psychiatrist) the one who is going to opine on whether Holmes is insane or not.

"It's a foregone conclusion that the defense will plead not guilty by reason of insanity."

Other documents likely contain new information, but are blacked out. For example, in one pleading, attorneys describe how law enforcement handled the package that Holmes sent Fenton, which was discovered four days after the attack and also after Holmes allegedly booby-trapped his own apartment.

Authorities were so worried the package was also rigged that they X-rayed it and had a technician in a protective suit open it. What investigators saw when they realized the package was not dangerous, however, is redacted. All that is legible in the documents is a reference to the package containing a notebook with a post-it note and "burnt currency."

The records also show that authorities obtained text messages that Holmes sent a classmate. The documents do not say what those texts discussed.

In court, prosecutors suggested Holmes was angry at the failure of a once promising academic career and stockpiled weapons, ammunition, tear gas grenades, and body armor as his research deteriorated and professors urged him to get into another profession. Chief Deputy District Attorney Karen Pearson said Holmes failed a key oral exam in June, was banned from campus and began to voluntarily withdraw from the school.

Documents filed in the case from now on will be public, unless prosecutors or defense attorneys ask they not be released.

Civil rights dominate Supreme Court term

By Pete Williams, NBC News Justice Correspondent

The U.S. Supreme Court term that begins Monday promises to be one of the most important for civil rights in decades, with the potential for blockbuster decisions on issues from race in classrooms and the voting booth to legal recognition for same-sex marriage.

Related:?Conservatives warily ponder prospect of an 'Obama court'

Less than a decade after ruling that the nation's colleges and universities can consider the race of student applicants to achieve more racially diverse campuses, a practice now widely used by the nation's selective schools, the court has agreed to take a fresh look.

The new challenge comes from Abigail Fisher, a white student denied admission to the University of Texas at Austin. The school admits the top 10 percent of academic performers from all Texas high schools, then considers the race of applicants as one factor in admitting the remainder of an incoming freshman class.

Evan Vucci / AP

People who waited in line overnight to hear the Supreme Court on a landmark case on health care hold their belongings as they make their way into the court in Washington, Thursday, June 28, 2012.

Fisher did not finish in the top 10 percent at her high school and claims that the consideration of race in reviewing applications cost her a spot at the university.?

"There were people in my class with lower grades, who weren't in all the activities I was in, who were accepted into UT. And the only difference between us was the color of our skin," she said.?

The university, backed by civil rights groups, contends that while the top 10 percent plan achieves some campus diversity, many of its classes would have only a few, if any, black and Hispanic students without additional considerations of race.?

Making it harder to achieve the diversity colleges need, argues Gregory Garre, a Washington, D.C. lawyer representing the University of Texas, "would jeopardize the nation's paramount interest in educating its future leaders in an environment that best prepares them for the society and workforce they will encounter."?

The New Yorker's Jeffrey Toobin joins Morning Joe to discuss President Obama's relationship with the Supreme Court, Chief Justice John Roberts and his ruling on the Affordable Care Act, and the relationships the justices have with one another.

The Supreme Court that will hear the case Oct. 10 is different from the one that upheld a race-conscious admissions program at the University of Michigan law school in 2003.?

"Sandra Day O'Connor was on the court then, and she's been replaced by Samuel Alito, who has much less tolerance for affirmative action," says Tom Goldstein, a Washington, D.C. lawyer who specializes in Supreme Court cases.?

O'Connor, who wrote the decision in the Michigan case, retired from the court in 2006.?

As a result, says Pamela Harris, a former Obama administration official in the Justice Department, "I don't think anyone thinks affirmative action is long for this world."?

Justice Elena Kagan, considered one of the court's liberals, will sit this one out. She was the Obama administration's solicitor general when the Justice Department became involved in the case in the lower courts.?

The Supreme Court will take up another racially charged issue this term if, as seems likely, it agrees to consider efforts to scale back the landmark Voting Rights Act.?

Passed by Congress in 1965 and renewed four times since then, most recently in 2006, a key provision requires states with a history of discrimination at the polls to get federal permission before making any changes to election procedures -- from redrawing congressional district boundaries to changing the locations of polling places.?

Three years ago, the Supreme Court brushed off a challenge to that requirement but strongly suggested that several justices had doubts about its constitutionality, given recent electoral reforms.?

"Things have changed in the South," the court said in 2009.?"Blatantly discriminatory evasions of federal decrees are rare."?

Pending cases ask the court to strike down the pre-clearance requirement entirely or throw out the list of areas, consisting of nine entire states, and of 12 cities and 57 counties elsewhere, that must get permission to modify their election procedures.?

The current map, says Bert Rein, a Washington, D.C. lawyer representing Shelby County, Ala., includes some localities that have made substantial reforms while missing other parts of the country that have failed to root out discrimination at the polls.?

As a result, Rein says, the system is unfair.?"Florida has been forced into pre-clearance litigation to prove that reducing early voting from 14 days to 8 is not discriminatory, when states such as Connecticut, Rhode Island and Pennsylvania have no early voting at all."?

But Debo Adegbile of the NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund says the current map is a close enough fit to cover the areas of greatest concern.?

"Congress is not a surgeon with a scalpel when it acts to legislate across the 50 states.?But it can reasonably attack discrimination where it finds it," he says.?

The court is almost certain to take up a host of challenges to the federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) signed into law by President Bill Clinton in 1996.?

It defines marriage, for the purposes of federal law, as "only a legal union between one man and one woman as husband and wife."?As a result, same-sex couples who get married in the states where such marriages are legal are accorded state and local benefits but miss out on more than 1,100 federal ones.?

After at first defending the law, the Obama administration notified federal courts early last year that it concluded the law was unconstitutional. House Republicans then took up the law's defense.?

A Supreme Court ruling striking down DOMA as discriminatory would not force states to permit same-sex marriage.?But it would require the federal government to recognize those marriages where they are legal.?

The court could address the issue of same-sex marriage more directly if it takes up the legal challenge to California's Proposition 8, which banned gay marriage in the state.??

Legal experts differ on whether the court is prepared to go that far, rather than deciding the DOMA issue now and coming back to the constitutionality of gay marriage in a later term.?

"We're not at the point where the Supreme Court will require the state of Mississippi to allow same-sex marriage," says Louis Michael Seidman of the Georgetown University Law Center.?

Among other questions the justices will confront:?

- Must police get a search warrant before taking a blood sample from a suspected drunk driver??

- How far can police go in using drug-sniffing dogs outside someone's house??

- Can a 1789 law, the Alien Tort Statute, be used to bring lawsuits in US courts for violations of international law that occur in other countries??

- And, in an issue of growing interest to U.S. businesses, should more limits be placed on the ability to bring class-action lawsuits?

Industry Analysis Is Out of Date - Rita McGrath - Harvard Business ...

For some time now, I've been observing that one of the central principles of strategy ? that industries are a fundamental building block for strategic analysis ? is being challenged. It's been interesting to watch computer companies go after the entertainment business, Internet time-wasters competing with televised time-wasters, and games played on social media sites scooping up revenue that traditional game companies might at one point have called their own.

The Wall Street Journal published a story which shows just how blurred traditional industry lines have become. In an article entitled "Cell Phones Are Eating the Family Budget" the Journal reporter profiled case after case of couples and families who give up spending on restaurants, entertainment, cars and even clothing in order to cover their burgeoning cell phone bills. In other words, funds that used to flow into local restaurants, clothing chains or other forms of entertainment are flowing instead into the top lines of mobile phone operators. The Journal offers some numbers:

The trend has been a boon for companies like Verizon Wireless and AT&T Inc. U.S. wireless carriers brought in $22 billion in revenue selling services such as mobile email and Web browsing in 2007, according to analysts at UBS AG. By 2011, data revenue had jumped to $59 billion. By 2017, UBS expects carriers to be pulling in an additional $50 billion a year

So let me get this straight ? by 2017, the analysts over at UBS are anticipating that more than $100 billion of consumers' disposable income will be heading into the pockets of carriers, and, by definition, not into the pockets of other things people used to spend their money on. Even today, before whatever new innovations will be unleashed by 2017, a family of four with two smartphones and two regular phones could be looking at over $300/month in bills. Now you have to add to that spending on Internet and Pay-TV to get a sense of what the average household is shelling out for connected services.

According to the NPD group, the cable bill for an average American household was $86 in 2011, and has been rising an average of 6% annually, while household incomes have remained flat or on the decline. As the report concludes, "NPD expects the average pay-TV bill to reach $123 by the year 2015 and $200 by 2020." Wow. Even at today's average prices, if you figure $300 for the mobile phone and $86 for cable TV and compare that to America's median household income of $45,800, after that household has paid their federal income taxes, spending on the phone and cable bill would eat up fully 13% of what's left over. All the rest of you industries ? from autos to haircuts to packaged foods to clothing to you-name-it ? you are all going to be dueling over what's left over.

Compare that, if you will, to the now-ancient world of the land-line. In that world, you only had one phone number, your monthly bill was pretty low unless you did exotic things like making long-distance calls, and the phone's major purpose was...talking.

The government data, which the Journal shared in the chart below, shows drops in a whole lot of categories, while cellular spending keeps rising, since the iPhone's introductory year in 2007:

wsj-chart.jpg

So unlike many sectors of the economy where Moore's Law prevails, making things like data storage, data communication and even clothing less and less expensive, those phone bills are only going up.

This story raises a real challenge to conventional strategy analysis, in which a key activity is often looking at traditional competitors, assessing their intentions and moves and figuring out key trends that are going to be meaningful within the confines of an industry. In cases like this one, the traditional competitors are important, sure, but you can actually think of all the traditional competitors in the same boat, as the very category in which you compete loses ground.

To consider competition like this, you need to think more broadly about what I call "oblique" competitors. These are competitors who may not be in your industry, may not be targeting the same problems you target, and may not even intend to compete with you at all. To understand them, you have to redefine what you are competing for. In this case, it's share of family budget. To do a competitive analysis in this situation, you'd need to get into the heads of potential customers and try to understand the tradeoffs they are making and why. Until you get in the habit of doing that, the risk of being collateral damage of someone else's successful strategy is all too real.

I was ready to add some rich color to our dining room for the autumn season. So I started with painting a fall leaf onto an old cork board. It still has the pin marks and scars from previous hanging. Anyone else find imperfection charming? Now it?s dark teal, rich red with coppers and golds??warmth?.

Obviously I?m not an artist. DIY skills and creativity do not = artistic talent for me. Mr. DIY loves the ?lion fish? I painted. What?! Okay, I have to agree that as a leaf, it?s a little sad and after a Google image inquiry, it does sort of resemble a lion fish.

But, you know what? We embrace imperfection around here and I love the colors. Besides?it?s art. Unique. One of a kind. It?s precious, right? {you can lie if you feel you need to answer that. lol!} I guarantee no one else has a painting of a leaf from a lion fish tree?I like being different. :) ?

I?m still playing with it all and next week, you can bet it will all look different but the colors, the theme and that lion fish leaf painting are staying. I do love to rearrange though.

Don?t these colors look amazing together?

Why It's Bad That Smartphones Have Banished Boredom

When I started my meditation practice I was a full blown smart-phone addict. One of the hardest earliest barriers to get over was the idea of sitting idle for 30 minutes. Somehow mindlessly browsing reddit was okay but just sitting and watching my breath was not. I'd get flooded with all kinds of thoughts about how I should be doing something productive and typically that was accompanied by anxiety.

At some point I had to stop and ask myself, who exactly do I think is judging my behavior? Why do I even feel like I need to justify what I'm doing with my personal time? Of course the realization came that it was all me, all my mind, and I let go of the habit.

Now I meditate regularly and still use my smart phone. I look forward to sitting and knowing I get time to just be. I'm comfortable with that and reap the benefits. I'm significantly less stressed during the day and my mind is calmer. I understand myself and my actions better. I still use the phone, but sometimes I don't. Sometimes it's nice to just be with your own mind.

I wouldn't say smartphones have only banished boredom though. They, like many of our modern baubles, have also lowered the bar for when boredom sets in.

An aside I feel is related I can't remember the last time I had a good meaningful conversation with a group of friends or even one on one. Hell, even meaningless conversation with depth seems to have left. It seems like on average things are being reduced to one or two sentences on a topic and topics which require multiple layers of thinking just don't come up.

I find it paradoxical as someone who was a loner in school I can look at my life now and see more friends, supportive family, great co-workers, technology like facebook, SMS, and smart phones to be always connected and yet I feel more alone than I ever have. I feel lacking in community.

Hamas boycotts Barcelona over Schalit tickets

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip (AP) ? Hamas is launching a media boycott of Barcelona after reports the Spanish league leader gave a complimentary ticket for an upcoming match to an Israeli soldier formerly held captive by militants in the Gaza Strip.

A Barcelona spokesman confirmed the team had given the ticket to Gilad Schalit, who was captured by Gaza militants in June 2006 and returned home last October under an Israel-Palestinian deal on prisoner exchange.

The team spokesman spoke on condition of anonymity in line with club policy. He says Barcelona often gives complimentary tickets.

Since his release, Schalit writes a newspaper sports column.

Hamas official Attallah Abu Al Subah says that, as of Thursday, no TV station in Gaza will broadcast Barcelona matches and no papers in the coastal strip will write about the club.
